Loading an aircraft safely takes more than physical strength. It requires spatial awareness, logical thinking, precision, and the ability to make the right decisions under time pressure.

That's why we're not only looking for people with experience. We're looking for people with the potential to learn the profession.

To identify that potential, we've developed our own Builder Assessment. It measures the skills needed to become a successful Air Cargo Builder.

About the role

At dnata, you'll work in one of the largest and most advanced air cargo operations at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Every day, we handle cargo for international airlines, making sure every shipment is built safely, securely, and ready for departure.

As a Junior Air Cargo Builder, you'll be responsible for building Unit Load Devices (ULDs), aircraft pallets, and aircraft containers for export flights.

Every build must meet airline requirements, have the correct weight distribution, and be secured for safe air transport.

The quality of your work directly affects flight safety, cargo stability, and on-time departures.

What will you do?

Your responsibilities include:

• Building export ULDs for wide-body and narrow-body aircraft;

• Working with aircraft pallets and aircraft containers;

• Building according to airline-specific instructions and contour profiles;

• Securing, netting, and stabilising cargo correctly;

• Checking weight and weight distribution;

• Working within strict flight departure cut-off times;

• Identifying irregularities in cargo or documentation;

• Following all safety and security procedures.

Your development

Air Cargo Builder is a specialist profession. That's why we invest in your development from day one.

Within our Build Team, you can grow into roles such as:

• Junior Air Cargo Builder;

• ULD / Freight Builder;

• Build Specialist;

• Senior Builder;

• Build Trainer / Coach.

Our selection process

A CV doesn't always show who is best suited for this role.

That's why every candidate completes our Builder Assessment, developed specifically to identify the skills needed to become an Air Cargo Builder.

The assessment measures:

• Spatial awareness;

• Logical reasoning;

• Problem-solving ability;

• Learning ability;

• Decision-making under time pressure;

• Planning and organisation;

• Safety awareness.

Candidates who achieve the required score will start as a Junior Air Cargo Builder.

If you don't reach the required score but we believe you're a strong fit for dnata, we'll discuss the opportunity to start as a Build-Up Employee (Netter), with the possibility of progressing to Air Cargo Builder.

Visit us first

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we organise selection days at our location in Schiphol-Rijk.

During your visit, you will:

• take a tour of our cargo operation;

• meet future colleagues;

• see what the roles of Build-Up Employee and Air Cargo Builder involve;

• learn more about the way we work;

• have the opportunity to ask questions;

• in many cases, hear the same day whether you'll move on to the next stage.

Places are limited for each selection day.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for people who:

• have strong analytical and logical thinking skills;

• have good spatial awareness;

• work accurately;

• take responsibility for quality and safety;

• enjoy learning new skills;

• are physically fit;

• are willing to work in a 24/7 shift schedule;

• have at least an MBO Level 2 working and thinking level (or equivalent).

Experience in logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, or air cargo is an advantage, but it's not required.

Important information

This role focuses specifically on building aircraft ULDs within our export operation.

It is not a general warehouse position or a truck pallet-building role.

Security screening

Employment is subject to obtaining a Declaration of No Objection (VGB), required to work at Schiphol Airport.

To qualify, you must:

• have lived continuously within the EU for at least the past 8 years;

• be able to provide a verifiable residential and employment history;

• successfully complete the security screening.

Without a valid VGB, employment is not possible.
